Impeachment Proceedings Initiated Against Defense Secretary
In a significant political development, Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari has formally initiated impeachment proceedings against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. This decisive move follows her earlier declaration to hold Hegseth accountable for his role in what she describes as an unauthorized conflict with Iran.
The military engagement between the United States, in collaboration with Israel, and Iran began in late February, escalating tensions in the region. Ansari accuses Hegseth, who leads the newly named Department of War, of violating his constitutional oath. She alleges that his actions have endangered American troops and resulted in unlawful military operations, notably a controversial U.S. strike on a girls’ school in Minab, Iran.
Highlighting these actions as constituting “high crimes and misdemeanors,” Ansari has called for Hegseth’s immediate removal by Congress. Supported by 12 other House Democrats, Ansari has filed a total of six articles of impeachment addressing these grave concerns.
