Trump Backs Kolodin in Arizona Secretary of State Race
In a significant development, former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Alexander Kolodin, the Republican candidate for Secretary of State in Arizona. This endorsement came post-primary, marking Trump’s first statewide candidate endorsement in Arizona beyond his support for Congressman Andy Biggs, who is pursuing the governorship and also secured a primary win.
During a rally in Phoenix last April, Trump mentioned Kolodin among other Republican hopefuls but refrained from officially endorsing him at that time. Kolodin, an attorney known for his involvement in legal actions contesting Arizona’s election outcomes in 2020 and 2022, emerged victorious against Gina Swoboda, the former Arizona Republican Party Chair. Swoboda had previously received Trump’s endorsement on multiple occasions, including during her campaigns for state party chair and Congress before she pivoted to the Secretary of State race.
Looking ahead, Kolodin is set to challenge the current Democratic officeholder, Adrian Fontes, in the upcoming November election. “Congratulations to Alexander Kolodin for his great win in Arizona’s race for Secretary of State,” Trump expressed on Truth Social. He further praised Kolodin as “tough, smart, and a proven winner,” adding, “We’ll do a fantastic Trump Rally to make sure he WINS. Alexander Kolodin has my complete and total Endorsement.”
Attempts to reach Kolodin for his remarks on the endorsement were not immediately successful.
