Former Arizona Senator Jon Kyl Passes Away at 84

Jon Kyl, who served as a significant political figure for Arizona, has died at 84 due to complications from a neurological disease. Kyl’s political career began in the House before he became a U.S. Senator for Arizona, holding the position from 1994 until 2013.

In an unexpected turn of events in 2018, Kyl was appointed by then-Governor Doug Ducey to complete the term of the late John McCain, reflecting his enduring influence in Arizona’s political landscape.

The Kyl family released a statement expressing their gratitude for Jon’s life dedicated to public service. “We know that Jon belonged to all of Arizona, a state he loved and explored with vigor, curiosity, and wonder. Serving his state and nation in Congress was a privilege and responsibility he honored and respected. We are grateful for his full and meaningful public life,” the family stated.
