Katie Zacharia’s stint as White House press secretary has come to an abrupt end after only five days. An unnamed White House official confirmed her departure, describing it as a transition out of her role. Zacharia, who commenced her duties on Monday, is already stepping down by the week’s end.

Her initial briefing on Tuesday was met with criticism concerning both her delivery and legal qualifications. During her briefing, she read a lengthy opening statement and engaged with just three reporters, raising eyebrows among the press corps.

President Trump, speaking before a campaign rally in Georgia on Friday, expressed uncertainty about Zacharia’s continuance in the position. “I just spoke to her about it. I said, ‘Katie, is this for you?’,” Trump revealed. He emphasized that he left the decision to Zacharia but advised, “you should reconsider” the role.

At 41, Zacharia, a graduate of Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, took on the role of chief spokesperson amid a challenging political climate for Trump, with his approval ratings lagging and Republicans aiming to minimize setbacks in the upcoming midterm elections.

Questions surrounding Zacharia’s legal credentials have been a focal point of scrutiny. When asked about her bar exam qualifications, Zacharia responded, “When I moved to China,” referencing her tenure from 2011 to 2013 at Zhon Lun, a Beijing-based law firm, as noted on her LinkedIn page.

In a statement to NPR, Zacharia stated she “practiced international transaction law, with all the appropriate credentials,” although the White House has not clarified if she is licensed to practice law in the U.S.

Before her brief tenure as press secretary, Zacharia served as a communications advisor for the Trump Media & Technology Group, the entity behind Trump’s Truth Social platform. She is also a familiar face on conservative media outlets like Fox News and Newsmax, where she frequently voiced support for Trump.
