Amid Federal SNAP Cuts, Phoenix Extends a Helping Hand to Affected Families

In the wake of significant federal modifications to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Arizona has experienced the highest rate of participant reductions in the country. In response, the city of Phoenix is stepping in to assist families impacted by the loss of these essential benefits.

Although Phoenix does not oversee the administration or approval of SNAP benefits, the city’s Human Services Department is taking proactive measures to support residents. The department is committed to providing personalized assistance to those navigating the recent changes in SNAP. This includes helping families with application processes and clarifying the program’s work requirements.

“Far too many people are losing their nutritional safety net because of federal changes, paperwork errors, and red tape,” stated Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego in a press release. “This initiative is a critical lifeline to keep children from going hungry, and families and seniors who are struggling with the high cost of food.”

Residents of Phoenix seeking support can make appointments online via phoenix.gov/SNAPNAV. Additionally, walk-in assistance is available during regular business hours at the city’s Family Services Centers.
