Grand Canyon Proposes Significant Increase in Colorado River Trip Fees

Grand Canyon River Trip Fees Set for Major Hike

Visitors planning to embark on non-commercial Colorado River trips through the Grand Canyon may soon face significantly higher fees. National Park officials have proposed a substantial increase in the cost for floating from Lees Ferry to Diamond Creek, raising it from $90 to $310 per person.

Additionally, a new fee of $55 is suggested for the stretch between Diamond Creek and Pearce Ferry, which has previously been free of charge.

The potential fee adjustments reflect a nearly three-decade gap since the last increase and are intended to support the park’s river operations, including essential activities like river monitoring, restoration, and search and rescue efforts.

While the lottery entry fee for private river trips will remain at $25, the proposed changes have opened up for public commentary until the end of January. If approved, the new fees could be implemented by March 2025.

The proposal comes amidst a broader consideration of fee increases for other park services, such as campsite rentals on both the South and North Rims and backcountry camping.
