Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Set for Major Expansion with Federal Funding Boost

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is poised for significant growth, thanks to an infusion of over $84 million in federal funds. This investment is earmarked for expanding the airport’s capacity and includes the creation of a new taxiway bridge.

The airport achieved record-breaking traffic in 2024, welcoming more than 50 million passengers, as noted in their announcement. To accommodate the increasing air traffic and passenger numbers, a 2,100-foot taxiway bridge is planned. This infrastructure will facilitate the movement of aircraft between the north and south airfields more efficiently.

The project has a considerable budget of nearly $333 million, with completion anticipated by 2027. A substantial portion, approximately $200 million, of the funding is sourced from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law enacted by Congress in 2021. This law allocates $15 billion for airport projects across the nation, supporting developments like those at Sky Harbor.
