Veterans and military families might soon benefit from reduced fuel costs thanks to a new legislative proposal. Arizona Congressman Abe Hamadeh has put forward a bill aiming to lower fuel expenses for those who have served the country.
The proposed legislation empowers the secretary of defense to apply discounts to federal fuel tax rates. Additionally, the secretary must provide a progress report to Congress within 180 days, detailing the program’s implementation and advising on its continuation.
“This discount, equal to the federal fuel tax, shows profound gratitude to our nation’s heroes who have borne the heavy costs of war defending our freedoms,” said Hamadeh in a statement.
As a Republican and former Army intelligence officer, Hamadeh’s initiative has garnered bipartisan support, with several Democratic and Republican legislators signing on as co-sponsors. The bill is currently under review by the House Armed Services Committee.
Despite repeated inquiries, Congressman Hamadeh has not provided further comments on the legislation.
