Arizona Public Service Experiences Significant Sales Growth Amidst Heat Wave and Industry Expansion
Amid an extraordinary heat wave earlier this year, Arizona Public Service’s parent company has reported a remarkable rise in sales, driven by weather conditions and a surge in industrial demand. The combination of these factors led to a first-quarter sales increase that surpassed typical growth rates for the utility sector.
Pinnacle West announced a 9.4% rise in weather-normalized energy sales compared to the previous year, marking a significant jump in energy consumption. This increase was largely fueled by new commercial and industrial clients, particularly those in the data center and semiconductor sectors.
Interestingly, the heat wave caused energy consumption levels to spike to figures usually seen much later in the year, specifically around May. This atypical demand pattern contributed substantially to the sales growth observed.
In the midst of this growth, Arizona Public Service (APS) is currently involved in proceedings to obtain approval for a 14% rate hike. The hearings for this request are scheduled to commence next week, drawing attention to the utility’s financial strategies during these dynamic times.
