Jimmy McCain Appointed to Arizona Board of Regents, Aims to Enhance Educational Access

Jimmy McCain, son of the late Senator John McCain, has been appointed by Governor Katie Hobbs to serve on the Arizona Board of Regents, which oversees the state’s trio of public universities. McCain’s appointment marks a significant step in his commitment to ensuring educational opportunities for students across diverse backgrounds, with a focus on Tribal and rural communities.

“Arizona’s public universities are the economic engine of our state, and I look forward to working with my fellow Regents, President Cruz Rivera, President Crow, and President Garimella, to advance our collective mission,” McCain stated.

The position was previously held by Liz Archuleta, a Democrat and former Coconino County Supervisor. Her term was cut short after the state legislature declined to conduct a confirmation hearing, limiting her service to one year.

McCain, a veteran and businessman residing in Cornville, is an alumnus of Arizona State University. Governor Hobbs praised his appointment, highlighting his dedication to public service and understanding of northern Arizona’s unique needs. She expressed confidence in his ability to advocate for the region’s students, saying, “With his deep Arizona roots and passion for serving the people of our state, I know he will be a tireless advocate for northern Arizona.”
