New Temple Announcement Expands Latter-day Saints’ Presence
In a significant announcement during the annual general conference, President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revealed plans for a new temple in Flagstaff. This addition is part of a broader expansion, with 15 new locations announced globally.
While specific details regarding the site and the opening timeline of the Flagstaff temple remain undisclosed, it will join a network of sacred spaces distinct from the church’s chapels, as temples are exclusive to members and hold special significance in the faith.
This development will increase the global count of Latter-day Saints temples to 382. In Arizona alone, there are six operational temples, with three more in the planning stages. Currently, the Snowflake Temple stands as the sole temple serving northern Arizona.
Arizona is home to a vibrant community of approximately 450,000 Latter-day Saints, who gather in around 925 congregations throughout the state. This new temple in Flagstaff is expected to serve the spiritual needs of this growing community.
