Urgent Evacuation Alert Issued in Sedona Due to Rising Floodwaters
In a proactive measure against potential flooding, Sedona city authorities have issued an evacuation alert for areas close to Oak Creek, following substantial rainfall overnight. The affected zones, labeled as evacuation zones 8, 9, and 10, cover a stretch from uptown Sedona to Chapel Road. Residents in these areas are being directed to head to Sedona Red Rock High School for safety.
The evacuation directive encompasses several streets and properties, including Trails End Road, Art Barn Road, and Blackhawk Lane, alongside locations such as the Villas at Poco Diablo Resort and Rancho Sedona RV park. It was prompted by the swift rise of Oak Creek’s water levels after intense rainfall, creating an immediate flood hazard. Officials have observed between 1.5 and 2.25 inches of rainfall as of Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
With additional rain anticipated throughout the day, the National Weather Service has extended a flood warning until 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Authorities are strongly advising residents to avoid typically dry creek beds and to refrain from crossing roads submerged by moving water.
In related news, Indigenous communities in northeastern Arizona, still recovering from recent severe flooding, may face further challenges with more rain forecasted just ahead of Election Day.
