Tempe Town Lake is set to introduce a novel boat cruising experience, offering a unique blend of fun and relaxation. The upcoming service, dubbed Tempe Boat Cruisin’, promises guests a memorable outing on pedal-powered cycle boats.
This innovative venture is being launched in partnership with the city of Tempe and supported by the creators of Arizona Party Bike, a local entertainment company known for its unique outings.
Cycle Boats: A New Way to Explore the Lake
The cycle boats are a hybrid between a party bike and a traditional boat, equipped with pedals that allow guests to help propel the craft. Despite the pedaling feature, professional captains and crew members are responsible for steering and operating the boats, ensuring a safe and enjoyable ride.

Robert Mayer, the founder of Arizona Party Bike, shares that this new initiative aims to enhance recreation on the lake. He suggests these cruises are perfect for various occasions, including birthday parties and corporate events.
“You’ll have a couple of different options for booking. You can book a private party where it would just be your group on board. I will also have some public cruises available,” Mayer explained.
Bringing the Community Closer to the Water
Mayer emphasizes the significance of Tempe Town Lake as a unique urban water body in the region. He highlights, “It’s the only urban lake in the entire Valley. It’s the only way that people can easily enjoy the water within a 15-20 minute drive almost anywhere in the Valley.” The initiative aims to make the lake more accessible and enjoyable for residents.
While exact pricing details are still being determined, Mayer anticipates the cost to range between $49 and $59. An inaugural event is planned for mid-January, with public cruises expected to commence by the end of the month.
