Trump to Mark 100 Days in Office with Michigan Rally
In a move to celebrate a significant milestone, President Donald Trump is heading to Michigan for a rally on the 100th day of his current term. The event, taking place in Macomb County, is designed to highlight his administration’s progress and achievements since his return to the White House.
The announcement, made by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, underscores the importance of Michigan in Trump’s political strategy. Leavitt stated on social media, “President Trump is excited to return to the great state of Michigan next Tuesday, where he will rally in Macomb County to celebrate the FIRST 100 DAYS!”
This visit to Michigan is one of Trump’s rare public appearances since resuming office, with his travel plans mostly limited to personal weekend getaways. His only official trip before this rally was a visit to disaster-affected areas in North Carolina and California, accompanied by an event in Las Vegas promoting his tax plan for tips.
Michigan, a critical battleground state in Trump’s recent electoral victory, is not just a backdrop for the rally but also a focus of significant political dialogue. The state’s Democratic Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, who has engaged in discussions with Trump, seeks avenues for bipartisan cooperation, especially concerning the Selfridge Air National Guard Base. The base’s future, amid the phasing out of A-10 aircraft, remains a matter of concern for Michigan lawmakers.
During an executive order signing earlier in April, Trump discussed Selfridge, expressing his intent to keep it “open, strong, thriving.” His optimism was echoed in his remarks to Governor Whitmer: “I think we’re going to be successful, Governor. I think we’ll be very successful there.”
Governor Whitmer’s receptiveness to collaboration was noted, although her presence at the upcoming rally remains uncertain. Her spokesperson stated, “We don’t have anything to share at this time” regarding her attendance.
Advocating for a new fighter mission to replace the A-10 squadron, Whitmer previously communicated with Air Force officials during President Joe Biden’s administration. In a letter, she asserted, “A fighter mission at Selfridge to recapitalize the A10s is the right path forward for the State of Michigan, the Air Force, and the nation.”
Before heading to Michigan, Trump is scheduled to attend Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome, marking his first international trip in his second term.
