The Montana Office of Public Instruction has partnered with onX to promote outdoor exploration and healthy lifestyles among students aged 12-17. This initiative encourages students to complete a certified hunter safety course, granting them a free one-year subscription to onX Hunt Premium, a mapping service popular with hunters for its detailed land ownership maps in Montana.
“Montana’s outdoor heritage is one of our greatest traditions, passed down from generation to generation,” Superintendent Susie Hedalen stated. The collaboration aims to cultivate healthy, confident young individuals who value safety, responsibility, and stewardship.
The partnership underscores the importance of hunter education, focusing on firearm safety, responsible practices, and conservation, while emphasizing understanding private property and public land. onX supports these principles, enhancing awareness and ethical hunting.
Kevin Vine, Business Development Manager at onX, stated, “Knowing where you stand isn’t just onX Hunt’s tagline, it’s essential for every hunter.” The initiative aims to promote ethical and responsible hunting for Montana’s next generation.
OPI plans to expand hunter education access statewide, urging more students to enroll and fostering partnerships with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks. The goal is to equip students with the necessary skills and confidence to safely enjoy Montana’s outdoor traditions.
FWP Director Christy Clark remarked on the significance of these partnerships in teaching children to be safe and ethical hunters, while recognizing the contribution of private landowners to Montana’s hunting heritage.
