Promoting economic growth and supporting veterans’ employment are top priorities for North Carolina’s leadership, as demonstrated by recent efforts to bridge these goals.

Governor’s Commitment to Workforce Development

In a recent initiative, Governor Josh Stein collaborated with leaders from the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The focus of their discussions was on bolstering support for the state’s workforce, with a particular emphasis on integrating veterans into the civilian job market. During his visit to Wilmington, the Governor also explored the resources offered at the NCWorks site to assist job seekers.

“North Carolina’s economy has been ranked at the top for business in recent years, and as we keep growing, we must ensure that every corner of our state benefits from that growth,” said Governor Josh Stein. “I am impressed how NCWorks is connecting people to career opportunities, and I have directed the Departments of Commerce and Military and Veteran Affairs to continue their collaboration to ensure veterans can succeed. We have to do everything we can to support our veterans.”

Integrating Veterans into the Workforce

The NC Department of Commerce is playing a crucial role in these efforts, with Secretary Lee Lilley highlighting the importance of the New Hanover NCWorks Career Center. “The New Hanover NCWorks Career Center brings together our workforce assets to connect jobseekers and great employers,” said Lilley. He emphasized the value veterans bring to the workforce, encouraging them to utilize the resources available at any NCWorks Career Center to aid in career transitions and to connect with employers who appreciate their skills.

Commitment to Veteran Employment

Secretary Jocelyn Mitnaul Mallette of the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs underscored the importance of providing opportunities for the state’s veteran population. “North Carolina is home to more than 600,000 veterans, and all of them deserve meaningful employment opportunities as they enter the civilian workforce,” she stated. Her department is dedicated to partnering with the Governor to dismantle any obstacles veterans may face in finding employment.
