Teenagers Arrested after Woman Found Dead in NYC Apartment
Halley Tejada, 19, and a 16-year-old were arrested following the discovery of 52-year-old Nadia Vitel’s dead body in a duffel bag in her late mother’s previously vacant Manhattan apartment. The arrest took place in York, Pennsylvania, by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, following a car crash involving the victim’s stolen vehicle, according to senior law enforcement sources.
Vitel had gone to inspect her mother’s apartment earlier this month, which had been unlawfully occupied by the arrested teenagers. The cause of Vitel’s death, as confirmed by the New York City Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, was blunt force trauma to the head.
Following a wellness inspection on March 14, Vitel’s body was found in her Kips Bay property. Surveillance footage showed Vitel near the building on March 10, with the teenagers seen entering soon after. Personal items belonging to Vitel were also found in the building’s garbage area.
The teenagers were seen leaving the building two days later, allegedly stealing Vitel’s car, and driving to New Jersey before crashing in Lower Paxton Township, Pennsylvania. The charges against the teenagers and the identity of their attorneys have not yet been disclosed.
