Virginia Congressional Candidate Shares Outdated District Maps
In the race for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, Republican candidate Doug Ollivant has been under scrutiny for circulating outdated maps of the area he aims to represent. The district, which currently includes Fredericksburg, Bowling Green, and Culpeper, had its boundaries redrawn in 2021.
Since June 2026, Ollivant’s campaign has released at least four videos on social media featuring maps that inaccurately expand the district further into central Virginia. These maps are from before the 2021 redistricting. Notably, one of these videos is being promoted as a paid advertisement on Facebook, indicating campaign funds are being used to distribute the incorrect information.
Despite his previous role as the director for Iraq at the U.S. National Security Council, appointed by the Bush administration in 2008, Ollivant’s campaign continues to portray him as a political outsider.
The Republican primary, scheduled for August 4, will see Ollivant competing against Pentecostal minister Philip Harding and pastor Ricky Smithers. The 7th District race is identified as one of the most competitive in the 2026 election cycle.
