Bush’s privatization plan.
Rule’s post on X was redistributed by Cercy, whose account lacks a common disclaimer to separate personal views from those of the campaign. This omission led to scrutiny and eventual deletion of the post after political commentator Aaron Rupar and the Texas Democratic Party highlighted it.
Background on Bush’s Privatization Proposal
Back in 2005, President George W. Bush suggested that younger workers should be allowed to allocate a portion of their payroll taxes into private investment accounts instead of Social Security. This proposal faced opposition from both Democrats and Republicans, who raised concerns about potential reductions in retiree funds and an accelerated depletion of the Social Security trust fund.
Critics of the plan also pointed out the risks involved, noting that workers could have faced significant financial losses during the 2008 financial crisis if their funds had been diverted to the market.

James Talarico, Paxton’s opponent, proposes increasing the Social Security tax cap for individuals earning over $400,000 annually as a solution.
Public Sentiment on Privatization
Privatizing Social Security is largely unpopular among the American public. A 2025 survey by Data for Progress indicates that just 20% of voters favor the idea, reflecting significant resistance to changes in the current system.
