Virginia Representative’s Wealth Growth Under Scrutiny
Recent financial disclosures reveal that Virginia Rep. Jen Kiggans’ net worth might have seen a substantial increase since she took office in 2023.
When Kiggans was elected to Congress in 2022, her reported net worth was up to $2.9 million. By August of the following year, this figure had risen to as much as $7.5 million, indicating a possible growth in wealth ranging from $400,000 to $6.1 million.
This development is particularly noteworthy given Kiggans’ previous criticisms of her Democratic opponent, former Rep. Elaine Luria, whom she accused of amassing wealth while in office. Kiggans emerged victorious over Luria in 2022, and the two are once again rivals in the current election cycle.
Adding to the complexity, Luria’s financial situation appears relatively unchanged. Entering Congress in 2019 with a net worth between $3.7 million and $13.6 million, Luria’s assets were reported to be between $3.4 million and $12.9 million at the time of her departure.
Kiggans has claimed that Luria’s financial gains amounted to $21 million during her tenure, though the basis for this assertion remains unclear as it exceeds the possible maximum earnings Luria could have reported.
Last month, an erroneous report by Fox News, which stated that Luria’s wealth had dramatically increased, was formally corrected.
The ongoing contest between Luria and Kiggans is for representation of Virginia’s 2nd District, encompassing Virginia Beach. A House Majority PAC poll conducted in July indicated a competitive race, with the candidates neck and neck.
