Wildfire Prompts Pre-Evacuation in Village of Oak Creek, Arizona

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has placed some residents in the Village of Oak Creek on pre-evacuation status.

Residents in the Village of Oak Creek have been advised to prepare for possible evacuation due to a wildfire that erupted on Wednesday afternoon. This alert comes from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

The areas of concern are those located east of State Route 179, particularly around Jacks Canyon Road and Pine Valley. Residents in zones YCU-1385, 1388, 1391, 1394, 1397, 1400, and 1403 are advised to collect essential items, medications, and pets in preparation for potential evacuation.

According to officials from Coconino National Forest, the Woods Fire has expanded to cover 50 acres since its discovery around 12:20 p.m. Helicopters and air tankers have been deployed to manage the fire, which is located approximately six miles southeast of Sedona.

Nearby communities and travelers on Interstate 17 can see the smoke billowing from the blaze. Authorities are urging people to steer clear of the affected area as the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
