Senator Susan Collins of Maine finds herself at the center of a fundraising controversy as her campaign accuses Democrats of inundating the state with external funds, while she simultaneously plans to attend a high-profile Hollywood fundraiser.

In a recent email from Collins’ campaign, it was alleged that Democrats are amassing significant funds from states like New York and California with the aim of unseating her. Paradoxically, Collins is set to attend a fundraising event later this month at the residence of Paramount executive Sherry Lansing in Los Angeles.

“Make no mistake: this is shaping up to be the biggest Senate race in the country,” the email stated. “Democrats are raising millions to take Susan down, flooding Maine with outside money from liberal elites in New York and California.”

The fundraiser, co-hosted by sports and entertainment mogul Casey Wasserman, offers tickets priced between $3,500 and $10,000 per attendee, as reported by the New York Times. Collins is also scheduled to participate in events in Northern California around the same period.

Collins, known for her opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act due to its proposed Medicaid cuts, nonetheless voted to advance the bill out of the Appropriations Committee. This move came shortly after her super PAC received a $2 million contribution from New York billionaire Stephen A. Schwarzman, as noted by Rolling Stone.

As Collins prepares to campaign for a sixth term, Democrats see an opportunity to capitalize on her perceived inconsistencies and connections with affluent donors. Devon Murphy-Anderson, Executive Director of the Maine Democratic Party, expressed skepticism about Collins’ political strategy. “Susan Collins has had this political charade that she’s played for a really long time,” she stated to MSNBC. “And I think what’s different this time is that Mainers are seeing through that charade.”

Among those vying to challenge Collins are activist Jordan Wood, oysterman Graham Platner, and brewery owner Dan Kleban. Although the Cook Political Report currently lists Maine’s 2026 U.S. Senate race as “leans Republican,” Democrats remain hopeful about their chances.
