The 30th anniversary of Earthfest was celebrated on Sept. 30 under sunny skies on the Diag, attracting hundreds of attendees to explore numerous informational booths and student groups. This event, part of the inaugural Climate Week at U-M, highlights sustainability initiatives across the University of Michigan and surrounding communities. It serves as a platform to educate and engage the campus community on supporting sustainability and environmental justice in daily life.
Activities included a chef demo by MDining using campus-grown and local ingredients, free bike repair and commuting guidance from Common Cycle, and Student Life Sustainability’s screen printing and grad cord-making. There were also animal ambassador visits from the Leslie Science & Nature Center.
Earthfest, organized by the Office of Campus Sustainability with support from the School for Environment and Sustainability, Student Life Sustainability, the Graham Sustainability Institute, Athletics, MDining, and Custodial & Grounds Services, has become a signature event over three decades. It showcases the breadth of sustainability efforts at U-M and beyond.
