Glowienka was appointed interim co-president with Bishop Austin Vetter in July. This followed the unexpected withdrawal of Dr. William Ruud, who was initially named to succeed former president John Cech. Bishop Vetter commended Glowienka’s leadership qualities, emphasizing her wisdom, sincerity, and faith-driven approach.

Having joined Carroll College in 2003 as an assistant professor in biology, Glowienka has held various leadership roles such as chair of the Life and Environmental Sciences Department, and recently, senior vice president for academic affairs. Her background includes a Ph.D. in evolutionary botany from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Glowienka’s appointment is pivotal for Carroll College and its students, serving as a role model for women in academia. Senior student Ella Kuenzli described her promotion as inspiring, expressing hope to follow in her footsteps. Under Glowienka’s leadership, the college looks forward to expanding its online education offerings and growing hybrid class options.

This fall, Carroll College enrolls around 1,135 students and employs nearly 390 staff members. The college plans to bolster its research capabilities, having already secured $1.5 million in grants with Glowienka’s efforts. The new president will officially take over on July 1, 2026, but continues as co-president through this academic year.
