Intensive Federal Effort Targets Crimes Against Indigenous Communities

In a significant move to address violent crimes against Native Americans, the FBI has directed additional agents and resources to ten of its Field Offices, including the one in Phoenix. This initiative, known as Operation Not Forgotten, represents a six-month surge in federal attention, marking it as the most extensive operation of its kind to date.

The operation saw collaboration among FBI agents and specialists dedicated to resolving cases involving missing and murdered Indigenous individuals. The collaborative effort tackled over 300 cases, leveraging advanced investigative technologies such as ground-penetrating radar, underwater cameras, and sonar to aid in their investigations.

This heightened focus on Indigenous communities coincides with ongoing investigations into the tragic murders of two Apache teenagers, Challistia Colelay and Emily Pike, which have recently captured public and media attention.
