Federal Land Transferred for Solar Project in Arizona
In a significant step towards enhancing renewable energy infrastructure, President Trump has approved a legislation that allocates federal land to La Paz County, Arizona. This land is earmarked for potential energy projects, setting the stage for local control of solar power development.
Earlier this week, Trump signed the La Paz County Solar Energy and Jobs Creation Act. This act transfers 3,400 acres of federal land to the county at “fair market value,” a move backed by bipartisan support and initiated by Republican Congressman Paul Gosar.
Gosar has been a long-time advocate for utilizing land to develop solar energy and energy storage projects. His efforts culminate in this land allocation, specifically intended for the “Atlas Solar Project,” a venture he has championed for over five years.
In 2020, Gosar successfully secured 5,900 acres in La Paz County for the same project. This earlier allocation was part of a comprehensive bill signed by Trump in 2019.
Projects on federal land must navigate extensive processes, including environmental reviews, before development can proceed. Despite these challenges, Congressman Gosar remarked, “I’m grateful to President Trump for signing my bill into law. This is exactly how Washington should work — delivering practical solutions that directly benefit the people we represent.”
Gosar’s legislative success is notable, with this week’s action marking his ninth bill signed into law over his 14-year tenure, the most among Arizona’s congressional members and senators.
