Search Intensifies for Missing Navajo Nation Girl
In a concerning development, the Arizona Department of Public Safety has activated a Turquoise Alert for an 8-year-old girl who disappeared from Coalmine on the Navajo Nation. The alert was issued on Friday, heightening efforts to locate the missing child.
The girl, identified as Maleeka “Mollie” Boone, was last seen on Thursday evening, between 4 and 6 p.m., in the Coalmine Navajo Housing Authority area. Her prolonged absence is unusual, according to her worried family, who are deeply concerned for her safety.
Maleeka is described as a Native American girl standing 4 feet 5 inches tall and weighing 50 pounds. She has brown eyes and long brown hair styled in French braids. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a red jacket, blue jeans, and cowboy boots.
A Turquoise Alert is a notification system applied when someone under the age of 65 is missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances. It aims to involve the community in the search efforts promptly.
Authorities urge anyone with information about Maleeka Boone’s whereabouts to contact the Navajo Police Department, Tuba City District, at 928-283-3111 or 928-283-3112.
Coinciding with this alert, Gov. Katie Hobbs announced the operational status of the new Turquoise Alert System on Thursday. This system is specifically designed to enhance the search for missing Indigenous or endangered individuals, reflecting a significant step in supporting vulnerable communities.
