The U.S. government has intensified its efforts against the Sinaloa cartel, focusing on two key figures within the organization. A significant incentive has been announced for information that could lead to the capture or prosecution of René and Alfonso Arzate García, recognized as influential leaders in the cartel’s Tijuana operations.
In collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Department of Justice, the State Department is offering a $5 million reward for each brother. This move underscores the authorities’ commitment to dismantling the cartel’s leadership structure.
Coinciding with this reward announcement is a new development in the legal proceedings against René Arzate García, also known by his alias “La Rana” or “The Frog.” A superseding indictment has been filed in a California federal court, charging him with drug trafficking offenses and providing material support for terrorism.
This legal action aligns with the previous designation by the Trump administration, which categorized several Mexican drug cartels, including the Sinaloa cartel, as foreign terrorist organizations. Such classifications aim to broaden the scope of legal measures available to U.S. authorities in tackling international drug trafficking networks.
