Tragic Incident at Fossil Creek Waterfalls
A weekend outing turned tragic when a 25-year-old man drowned at the picturesque Fossil Creek Lower Waterfalls. The incident has left local authorities urging caution for visitors to the popular site.
According to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, the young man leaped from the waterfall on Sunday morning. Witnesses reported he made a reassuring thumbs-up gesture after resurfacing, signaling he was okay.
However, the situation took a dire turn when he swam beneath the waterfall and did not reappear for approximately ten minutes. Concerned bystanders quickly intervened, pulling him from the water and administering CPR, but their efforts were in vain as he never regained consciousness.
Emergency responders, including the Tonto Rim Search and Rescue Team and the Pine-Strawberry Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene around 11:48 a.m. The man’s identity and hometown remain undisclosed, pending notification of his family.
