The Senate Select Committee on Ethics has closed its review of allegations against Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego, bringing an end to the claims initiated by Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna.
In April, Luna submitted a complaint but did not clarify the specifics of her allegations against the Democratic senator. The committee’s letter detailed that Gallego was accused of “campaign finance violations” and misconduct of a sexual nature.
Recent reports from Politico indicated that Gallego used campaign funds for personal expenses such as family vacations, Super Bowl tickets, and childcare. Whether these expenditures, which Gallego claims adhere to Federal Election Commission guidelines, were scrutinized remains uncertain.
The committee conducted a thorough investigation, acknowledging Gallego’s full cooperation. They concluded, “The Committee did not find evidence that your actions violated Federal law, Senate Rules, or related standards of conduct.”
Gallego addressed the dismissal, stating, “The dismissal by the Ethics Committee reaffirms what I have said about these accusations from the beginning: they were right-wing conspiracies peddled by far-right activists like Anna Paulina Luna, the White House, and their allies. I look forward to an apology from Rep. Luna for weaponizing the ethics process while refusing to investigate historic corruption that’s making life harder for families.”
In response, Luna took to social media with a strong rebuttal. “These are not conspiracy theories. You’re a gross example of representation. Need I mention you leaving your pregnant wife during your Campaign for Senate? There are plenty of people who know about your antics,” she posted.
Luna also hinted at the potential for further revelations, suggesting that Gallego’s messages might eventually come to light. “Once a creep always a creep, and you’re gonna need it,” she added.
