Corewell Health Nurses Secure Tentative Contract with Key Benefits

Corewell Health, the largest healthcare provider in Michigan, has reached a tentative agreement on a contract with the union representing approximately 10,000 nurses. This development marks a significant step forward in the ongoing labor negotiations.

The nurses are part of the Teamsters Local 2024, which announced the preliminary agreement on Tuesday. The proposed contract includes a 15% increase in wages spread over three years, limitations on out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, and enhanced departmental autonomy and benefits, according to a press release issued by the union.

In the upcoming weeks, union members are set to vote on the ratification of this contract. A spokesperson for Corewell Health expressed optimism about the agreement, stating, “We are pleased to reach a tentative agreement with the Teamsters on a first contract. This is an important milestone, but nurses still need to approve the agreement before it is finalized. We remain committed to being a great place for nurses to work, and to providing the best, high-quality care to the patients and communities we serve,” in a statement to Michigan Public.

The negotiation process has been lengthy, taking over a year to reach this point. It follows the decision by Corewell Health nurses to unionize under the Teamsters in November 2024.
