Arizona Faces Severe Weather: Calls for Emergency Declaration
In the face of extreme weather conditions, State Rep. Walt Blackman has called on Governor Katie Hobbs to declare a state of emergency for regions in Arizona ravaged by recent storms. The state has been battling intense weather, including thunderstorms, floods, and hail, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a tornado watch for northern Arizona on Wednesday and Thursday.
The counties of Navajo, Apache, Coconino, and Gila have been particularly affected by the severe weather patterns. Declaring a state of emergency would enable the Governor’s Office to swiftly allocate necessary resources to these impacted areas.
Blackman, in his communication with Hobbs’ office of constituent engagement, emphasized the urgency of the situation. He expressed, “Many of the communities I represent have [asked] the State Representative for Legislative District 7 to formally request that you declare a State of Emergency for … limited emergency response resources, lengthy emergency transportation routes, and geographic challenges that can make severe flooding particularly dangerous.”
The pressing appeal from Blackman underscores the need for immediate action, aiming to prevent any loss of life due to delayed response. Despite the urgency, the Governor’s Office has not yet provided a comment on the request.
