Prepare for a Busy Labor Day Weekend at Arizona Airports
As the summer season draws to a close, travelers are gearing up for a bustling Labor Day weekend. Airports across the nation, including Phoenix’s Sky Harbor and Tucson International, are anticipating increased passenger traffic.
For many Arizonans, Labor Day weekend is an opportunity to escape the scorching heat, but it also comes with the potential for travel delays. Jon Brodsky, a spokesperson for Sky Harbor, advises passengers to take proactive steps to minimize disruptions.
“On the web page there, you can see key information on things like security wait times, flights, restaurants, shops, and more,” Brodsky said. “We recommend to everybody to arrive at the airport two hours early for domestic flights and three hours early for international flights.”
To further streamline the travel experience, Brodsky suggests utilizing the Sky Train and the PHX Reserve service, which allows travelers to reserve a spot in the TSA security line, helping to reduce waiting times.
Meanwhile, Tucson International Airport is also preparing for what could be one of its busiest Labor Day weekends. Austin Wright, communications director for the Tucson Aviation Authority, highlights the expected surge in passengers.
“We expect that we’ll have about 5,000 passengers per day at load factors exceeding 85% for the weekend, which means flights will be very full for Tucson airport standards, which, we’re a small airport,” Wright said.
According to Wright, most passengers are choosing to leave Arizona, as the intense heat makes it less appealing for tourists to visit Tucson during this time of year.
