Arizona Targets L’Oréal Over Alleged Harmful Ingredients in Hair Products

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office has initiated legal proceedings against L’Oréal, accusing the beauty giant of deceptive marketing practices concerning its chemical hair relaxers. These products allegedly contain harmful toxins linked to cancer.

The lawsuit suggests that L’Oréal breached the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act by misleading consumers about the safety and benefits of their hair care products.

Marketed under the brands Dark and Lovely, Optimum, and Mizani, these hair relaxers are primarily aimed at Black women for the purpose of straightening coily or curly hair textures.

The complaint highlights the presence of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in L’Oréal’s hair relaxers, which are categorized as probable human carcinogens by various health authorities.

Research indicates a potential increase in the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer among women utilizing these chemical hair relaxers.

L’Oréal USA is also dealing with a class action lawsuit concerning its CeraVe benzoyl peroxide products, which allegedly contain carcinogenic substances linked to leukemia and other blood cancers.

The Attorney General’s Office aims to secure consumer protection measures and prohibit the sale of these products without health risk warnings.
