Arizona Heritage Center to Undergo Significant Repairs Following Storm Damage
In the wake of severe weather events, the Arizona Heritage Center in Tempe is set to close on November 10 for crucial repairs. The Arizona Historical Society has announced that the cost of repairing and improving the museum will be over $2 million.
David Breeckner, the executive director of the Arizona Historical Society, expressed optimism about the upcoming renovations. “I’m optimistic that the repairs we’re looking at here will address long standing issues, turning it from a difficult reality into an opportunity to actually improve the facility, not just repair it,” he stated.
Key areas requiring attention include the center’s air conditioning and audio-visual systems, both of which were exacerbated by recent flooding. Breeckner also mentioned plans to revamp some of the exhibits. “What we’re gonna have to do is actually dismantle those exhibition galleries entirely in order for the work crews to gain access, and then afterwards we’ll have the opportunity to rebuild them with new and refreshed content,” he explained.
Additional factors contributing to the center’s current situation include an attempted break-in and acts of vandalism in August, which damaged the pump system and contributed to last month’s flooding.
According to the historical society, the museum aims to welcome visitors back in early January with improved and updated facilities.
