Arizona’s Legislative Move on Utility Reporting Raises Concerns
In a significant legislative development, the Arizona Senate has approved a bill mandating biannual reports from major utilities regarding new high-load connections, particularly targeting facilities like data centers. This bill aims to enhance transparency by requiring utilities to submit detailed reports to the Arizona Corporation Commission, highlighting the number of new and pending connections.
While the bill has garnered support, it has also faced criticism. Democratic Senator Mitzi Epstein, one of the three dissenting voices, expressed concerns over the bill’s limited scope. She argued for a broader application, suggesting, “Repeal the data center tax incentives, because it’s foolish to keep them any longer. They are no longer needed, they are just a drain on our budget.”
Following the Senate’s decision, the bill is set to return to the House for further consideration.
