Body of Missing Man Discovered at Grand Canyon’s South Rim
The Grand Canyon, a place of stunning natural beauty, became the scene of a tragic discovery this week as park officials reported finding the body of a man who had been missing for nearly two weeks. The remains of 26-year-old Sandarsh Krishna were located below the rim in proximity to Verkamp’s Visitor Center.
According to Joelle Baird, a spokesperson for the park, rescue teams were guided to the area through digital forensic data from Krishna’s cell phone. “He was located approximately 250 feet below the rim,” Baird stated, highlighting the challenging terrain of the search area.
Krishna had been reported missing on April 28. That same day, a backpack believed to be linked to him was handed over to authorities at the Bright Angel Lodge by an anonymous individual. Park officials have confirmed that this person is not considered a suspect in the ongoing investigation.
Following the recovery, Krishna’s body was transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office, where his identity was confirmed. Both the National Park Service and the Medical Examiner’s Office are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and subsequent death.
The incident has drawn attention to the potential dangers that can accompany visits to the Grand Canyon, a destination known for its challenging landscapes and breathtaking vistas.
