With absentee ballots already distributed and early voting commencing tomorrow, Michigan’s political landscape is heating up as the primary election approaches. Just 11 days away, the state is poised for two significant statewide races, leaving some voters still contemplating their choices. This week’s special edition of the newsletter aims to assist undecided voters by highlighting the candidates vying for their support.
Governor’s Race
As Michigan gears up for its 2026 primary election on August 4, several candidates have emerged in the gubernatorial race. Democrat Chris Swanson, who currently holds the position of Genesee County Sheriff, is among the contenders aiming for the governor’s seat.
Another prominent name in the Democratic lineup is Jocelyn Benson, who has served as Michigan’s Secretary of State since 2019. She is now looking to expand her political career by running for governor.
Perry Johnson, a businessman and author, is throwing his hat in the ring as a Republican candidate. He recently shared his vision for Michigan in an interview with Michigan Public’s Doug Tribou.

U.S. Senate Race
