Efforts Underway to Contain Wildfire on Mormon Mountain

Firefighters are diligently working on Mormon Mountain, located roughly 18 miles southeast of Flagstaff, to manage a wildfire that has spread across half an acre. The blaze, which began Monday, is one among several ignited by lightning during the weekend’s thunderstorms.

Forest officials have indicated that no infrastructure is currently at risk from the wildfire on Mormon Mountain. The fire is primarily affecting steep and densely wooded areas, making containment efforts challenging.

Residents in nearby Mormon Mountain communities and travelers along Lake Mary Road can expect to see smoke as crews work to control the fire.

Over the weekend, Coconino National Forest firefighters were engaged in extinguishing various wildfires across the area, all sparked by lightning. According to forest officials, fire crews responded to 13 separate fires from Saturday through Monday morning.
