Grand Canyon National Park Sees Surge in Visitor Numbers

In a year marked by travel resurgence, Grand Canyon National Park experienced a significant increase in visitor numbers. Ranking as the third most-visited national park in 2024, it trailed only behind Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Zion National Park.

An impressive 4.9 million tourists explored the South and North Rims of the Grand Canyon last year. This marked an increase of approximately 200,000 visitors from 2023, setting a post-pandemic record.

According to the National Park Service’s annual report, national parks across the United States collectively welcomed a historic 331,863,358 visits in 2024, the highest since records began in 1904.

Despite these record-breaking figures, the release of this data was subdued. The New York Times noted that an internal directive from the Trump administration restricted park officials from promoting these numbers, coinciding with widespread layoffs of park rangers and staff.
