Lawsuit Filed by Immigration Judges Against Federal Government

A recent wave of controversy has emerged as a group of immigration judges, who were terminated in February, have initiated legal action against the Trump administration. This follows a decision by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to lay off these judges, which has been met with significant legal challenges.

The judges, who were appointed just last December, claim in a lawsuit first filed in March and later revised, that the Department of Justice violated legal protocols by abruptly dismissing them. According to the lawsuit, these terminations disregarded the comprehensive application and training procedures the judges had completed.

The termination of thirteen immigration judges on February 14th by DOGE has been described by the plaintiffs as a move not based on job performance. Instead, they argue it was part of an unofficial attempt to reduce personnel without adhering to formal procedures. The judges are seeking reinstatement, recovery of legal expenses, and additional relief measures.
