Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan’s Campaign Spending Under Scrutiny
Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska has reportedly expended over $1.5 million from his campaign funds on luxury accommodations and dining, as indicated by his financial disclosures.
While legislators are allowed to use campaign contributions for meals and travel, federal regulations mandate these expenses must be connected to official duties and not for personal benefit.
The spending spans Sullivan’s tenure in the Senate, starting in 2015 and extending through his current re-election efforts. As he seeks a third term, he may confront former Rep. Mary Peltola in the upcoming general election.
Three entities are involved in this spending: Alaskans for Dan Sullivan, his primary campaign organization; Sullivan Victory, a joint fundraising body linked to his Senate campaign; and True North PAC, a group led by Sullivan to support fellow Republicans.
In early 2026, these groups jointly spent $65,847 on meals and lodging, with approximately 92% occurring outside Alaska. This includes a $3,500 stay at the Four Seasons resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
In 2025, expenditures on accommodations, dining, and catering amounted to $333,291, significantly surpassing the $164,936 spent in 2024.
Sullivan’s expenditure over the past decade frequently involved hotels with golf facilities. In April, the Alaska Democrats issued a press release highlighting this pattern.
Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft commented, “While we’re paying $5 for a gallon of gas, choosing between paying for groceries or health care, and struggling to afford housing, Self-Serving Sullivan has literally been wining and dining Lower 48 special interest donors at luxurious golf resorts.”
An example is the La Quinta Resort & Club in Palm Springs, California, where Sullivan-related entities have made 24 payments totaling $160,737 for lodging, meals, and event spaces.
Though La Quinta is typically viewed as a mid-tier hotel chain, its Palm Springs location is a luxurious resort featuring five golf courses, expansive rose gardens, and private pools, also noted for being the filming site for season 16 of The Bachelorette.
From 2022 to 2025, Sullivan’s groups reported spending over $151,000 on accommodations and events at Kiawah Island, a barrier island in South Carolina, primarily at the Kiawah Golf Resort, known for hosting the 2021 PGA Championship.
In October 2025, Bloomberg News reported that Sullivan co-hosted a Kiawah Island fundraiser with Sen. John Boozman from Arkansas during a government shutdown. Boozman is a dedicated golfer.
This year, Sullivan groups disclosed spending $21,000 at The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona, a resort with a golf course designed by Phil Smith and a three-story spa, popular among celebrities.
The Phoenician’s room rates can reach up to $9,500 per night.
From 2019 to 2025, Sullivan groups logged $2,441 in expenses at The Breakers resort in Palm Beach, a property with a seaside golf course located near President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
These lavish expenditures contrast with Sullivan’s portrayal of himself as a champion of the working class, often appearing at campaign events in work boots and a Carhartt jacket dressed accordingly.
