Wildfire in Cochise County Expands Rapidly, Prompting Evacuations
The Stronghold Fire, which ignited on Monday in Cochise County, Arizona, has rapidly expanded, consuming 2,300 acres as of the latest reports. The blaze threatens numerous homes in Sunsites and Pearce, prompting evacuations and placing some residents on high alert.
According to Tiffany Davila, spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management, the situation remains critical. “Residents in [set] status should be prepared, they should have a go-bag ready, and pay attention to news reports and things like that because at any time conditions change, and people need to be ready in case that does happen,” Davila emphasized.
The fire’s progression is largely attributed to its location in difficult-to-reach, rocky areas, combined with strong winds that are driving its spread. As of Tuesday afternoon, efforts to contain the blaze have been unsuccessful, with containment still at 0%.
