Waymo’s Phoenix Operations Unaffected by Recent Recall Amid Software Concerns
Despite a widespread recall of more than 3,700 vehicles due to a software glitch, Waymo assures users that its autonomous vehicle services in the Phoenix area remain uninterrupted. This recall arises from a defect that led some vehicles to enter flooded roads in San Antonio after recent storms.
The problem, identified in a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, affects cars equipped with Waymo’s fifth-generation Automated Driving System. This system is also operational in vehicles available to the public throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
However, a Waymo representative confirmed to KJZZ that services and vehicles in the Phoenix region are experiencing “no disruptions.” The company is proactively addressing the issue by working on “implementing additional software safeguards” to better handle severe weather conditions.
