Facilities & Operations has unveiled a new interactive Facilities and Parking Map at the University of Michigan, designed to streamline access to essential campus operational information for the university community and visitors. This tool allows users to conveniently access important details such as exterior accessibility features, construction zones, parking locations, and bike and moped parking. By integrating geographic information systems (GIS) technology, the map modernizes information sharing on campus.
The map aggregates data previously scattered across various static PDF maps into a single, user-friendly platform. This comprehensive resource simplifies updating and customization, enhancing user experience. Lukeland Gentles, assistant vice president for operational support, stated, “Making this map publicly available gives students, employees, visitors and community members a more accessible and reliable way to find important operational information across campus.”
Initially developed to address an internal need for efficient operational information management, the map’s utility extends to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. Brian McElroy, GIS manager, highlighted, “This map brings several facilities services into one easy-to-use place… We hope people will try it out and use it to better plan their time on campus.”
Future enhancements will include additional map layers as campus requirements change and new data becomes available. This initiative aligns with Facilities & Operations’ mission to make campus information more accessible and practical for all stakeholders.
