In a move that underscores North Carolina’s ambition to become a global aerospace leader, Governor Josh Stein and state officials made a strategic visit to the 55th Paris Air Show. Their goal: to showcase North Carolina as a prime destination for aerospace businesses.
North Carolina’s Aerospace Ambitions
“North Carolina is first in flight, and we are the future of flight,” said Governor Josh Stein. As he highlighted the state’s pivotal role in aerospace innovation, Governor Stein emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with international firms. The visit aimed at expanding opportunities between North Carolina and France, reinforcing the state’s position as a burgeoning hub for the aerospace sector.
Attracting Global Investments
The Paris Air Show, renowned as the planet’s largest aerospace event, attracts a broad spectrum of industry leaders and companies, with over 2,500 exhibitors from 48 nations and hosting 300,000 visitors. North Carolina’s presence there is a testament to its commitment to fostering international business relationships.
“North Carolina’s network of businesses and strong economic infrastructure draw companies from across the world to invest in our state,” stated Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley. The event provided a platform to engage potential investors, offering new avenues for companies to establish or expand their operations in North Carolina’s thriving aerospace ecosystem.
Growing Aerospace Industry
With around 400 aerospace companies already operating in the state, contributing $88 billion annually, North Carolina boasts a formidable aerospace community. Airbus, a notable French corporation, employs over 500 individuals at its Kinston facility. The recent announcement by JetZero to establish a manufacturing hub at the Piedmont Triad International (PTI) Airport further cements the state’s standing, promising an infusion of $4.7 billion and 14,000 jobs – marking the largest job commitment in the state’s history.
JetZero joins other aerospace titans like Boom and HondaJet at PTI, attracted by North Carolina’s adept workforce. This workforce continues to evolve, as evidenced by Guilford Technical Community College’s plan for a $35 million aviation training facility aimed at preparing future aerospace professionals.
Strengthening Franco-North Carolina Ties
North Carolina’s relationship with France has been productive over the past decade. A total of 113 projects announced by French companies in the state have brought $439 million in investments and created 1,200 jobs. Furthermore, more than 100 French companies currently operate in North Carolina, employing approximately 20,000 residents and demonstrating the robust economic ties between the region and France.
