Nine Dead in Wisconsin Highway Crash Involving Semitrailer and Van

A fatal crash in western Wisconsin involving a semitrailer and a van resulted in the death of nine people Friday. The crash occurred at the intersection of State Highway 95 and County Highway J, southwest of Neillsville, according to a Facebook post from Clark County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy James Hirsch.

The van collided with the semitrailer as it entered the intersection. Eight of the nine people in the van, including the driver, tragically died at the scene. The remaining passenger was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries. The semitrailer’s driver, the vehicle’s only occupant, also died at the scene, stated Deputy Hirsch.

The investigation into the crash is currently underway. In a heartfelt post on X, Gov. Tony Evers expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those involved and acknowledged the swift response of the first responders at the scene.

Details of those involved in the crash will be made public once family members have been informed, as per the sheriff’s office. The crash led to the closure of Highway 95 for several hours. Aerial footage showed both vehicles overturned on their sides. The crash site is approximately 50 miles southeast of Eau Claire.
