The University of Michigan is set to welcome over 8,000 undergraduate students and their families to the Ann Arbor campus for the fall 2025 move-in, scheduled from August 20-24. This influx will temporarily alter traffic and parking in the area, impacting both the local community and campus visitors. Michigan Housing is organizing this event to minimize disruptions, with significant support from the city. Expect street and parking changes during this period.
Local residents and visitors should prepare for traffic changes from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily during the move-in period. Key modifications include:
- Thompson Street: Southbound one-way from Jefferson to Packard streets.
- East Madison Street: Eastbound one-way between Thompson and State streets.
- East Ann Street: Eastbound one-way from Zina Pitcher to Observatory streets.
- Observatory Street: Southbound one-way between East Ann and Geddes streets.
Parking meters near residence halls will be reserved for students and families with unloading permits. University parking lots and structures will also be dedicated to move-in activities, ensuring seamless transitions for new arrivals.
Dedicated move-in parking areas include:
- Lot M-28 (Washington Heights).
- Lot M-95 (east of Markley Hall).
- Lot E-1 (North University Court by Stockwell Hall).
- Palmer Parking Structure (N-26): Move-in participant parking only.
- W16 (“Triangle”) Lot: Thompson at Madison and Packard.
- Lot NC32 (Baits Drive): 20 spaces for move-in.
The Department of Public Safety and Security will oversee traffic management in residence hall areas during the move-in. Additionally, the Ann Arbor Area Transit Authority and U-M’s Logistics, Transportation & Parking will adjust some bus routes to accommodate the new traffic patterns.
