Iranian Soccer Team Relocates World Cup Training Base

In a strategic shift, Iran’s national soccer team has relocated its World Cup training base from Arizona to Mexico. This decision, announced by the president of Iran’s soccer federation, reflects the team’s adaptation to geopolitical and security challenges.

The Iranian team initially planned to prepare for the World Cup at Tucson’s Kino Sports Complex. However, ongoing Middle Eastern tensions and security concerns prompted reconsideration of this venue. According to Iran Football Federation President Mehdi Taj, the relocation has received FIFA’s approval, although no official confirmation from FIFA has been made public yet.

With the new base set in Tijuana, Mexico, the team will be positioned closer to Los Angeles. This location is strategic as the team is scheduled to play against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15. The 2023 World Cup, spanning from June 11 to July 19, is a collaborative hosting effort by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
