Drone Delivery Set to Revolutionize Shopping Experience in Phoenix
Residents of Phoenix are on the brink of experiencing a cutting-edge delivery system as Walmart plans to introduce drone deliveries in the area by next year. This initiative is part of a broader rollout that will see similar services in seven major metropolitan areas by 2027.
Currently operational in Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Atlanta, Walmart’s partnership with Wing, a drone technology company, is set to expand its reach to Phoenix. These high-speed drones, capable of flying at up to 60 mph, are designed to deliver packages directly to customers’ yards or driveways using a secure tether system.
Jessie Poole-Strang, a communications manager at Wing, highlighted the benefits of drone delivery, especially in challenging conditions. “Like, traffic can be brutal. The heat can be brutal, and drone delivery is a great option for those that either don’t want to or can’t leave the home to do those errands, but maybe take quite a while — especially when you calculate those drive times back and forth,” she explained.
Poole-Strang also emphasized that Wing collaborates with local community leaders when entering new markets, ensuring a smooth integration of the drone delivery service. Discussions about the specific rollout plans for Phoenix are currently in progress.
